Are these spelling mistakes familiar? Even though they may make you cringe - they’re normal at different stages. But, you do want to address them when you notice it - because you don’t want your child to get to an age where you feel ‘they should know this by now’. Take a look below to find out what exactly to teach your child if they spell like the spellings in the video. One way you can help your child is by making sure that they are practicing spelling on a regular basis. If you want to be good at spelling, you have to practice, and my kids love practicing with Night Zookeeper because it just feels like a game. (And many of the activities are games!) There are spelling mini-lessons within the program, writing assignments that reinforce the spelling rule, and games that allow them to practice in a fun way. Tip, if the words seemed too easy too hard for your child, you can adjust the difficulty in settings. There’s quite a lot to learn at this stage, but for now at home, you should start with these major categories: - Different ways to spell long vowels, and use sorting, so they understand when to use which spelling - Homophones (there, their, they’re) - -k, -ck, -ke ending (smoke, peak) - -le for words like table - Inflectional endings (marched, batted; dropping the e and adding ing)
