Sea Ice Measurement System

Aboard Le Commandant Charcot, polar navigation relies on exceptional technical mastery. Among our advanced scientific equipment, the Sea Ice Measurement System (SIMS) combines an electromagnetic sensor with an acoustic Doppler. Suspended from the bow, it continuously measures ice thickness as the ship advances.   ​ ​ This real-time data feeds directly into our onboard DSHIP system, shared with our research partners.
